Home sweet (fabric) home

Lately I've been taken with fabric wall décor and the softness it can add to a child's room. This little handmade cottage from Oregon's Petite Maison is a perfect example. A sweet, detailed piece (love the handstitched doorknob) that would make a nice addition to a wall grouping of art and photos.

Mama's got a brand new bag

As we were leaving the hospital with our newborn, the strap on my diaper bag broke.  How's that for bad timing?  So I did what any mom would do, I tied it back on with a knot and made it work.  So when I got home and saw a smoking deal on a diaper bag on Babysteals.com, I grabbed it.  I'm loving my eco-friendly Lassig messenger bag.  It's free of PVC, nickel, AZO dyes, cadmium and phthalates.  And it's chock full of pockets and dividers for the ultimate organization.  It even comes with a removable insulated bottle pouch, stroller straps, changing pad and zipper pouch.  What more can you ask for?  How about a zip-off interchangeable cover?  Awesome!

Chocolate and berries, swoon

I cannot get enough of the delightful sweet and tart flavor of boysenberries.  Usually they're a summer treat but Oregon's Lillie Belle Farms has combined their own organic boysenberries with cream and organic chocolate in a chocolate fruit cup.  Boysenberries and chocolate?  That's enough to make a girl swoon.

Hey, kids, let's play with underwear!

Our family loves most any book by best-selling author Todd Parr, with their inclusive messages and colorful bold-line illustrations. Now he's lent his name and signature artwork to a new iPhone app for the toddler and preschool set. One with the oh-so-kid-friendly name My Underwear. Yes, an app all about underwear.

It includes four different games: matching underwear-wearing pairs in a memory game, feeding a monster who gobbles underwear falling from the sky, matching underwear to animals by color and shape, and designing your own goofy underwear. Maker Thumb Arcade let us try the app for free and, while our five-year old seemed "meh" about it at first, over the last month it's become one of his most-played apps. So I'm passing the word on to you: My Underwear is an app both fun to look at and fun to play.

Downsizing the diaper bag

My love for wristlets started when I wanted a small purse to throw in my diaper bag.  Now as a mom of an older child, I don't need such a large diaper bag.  So I'm eager to try a diaper bag wristlet from Washington's Little Chic Boutique.  They come in fun prints with coordinating baby wipe carriers.  And they simply hold a couple of diapers and some wipes.  Perfect for a mama to toss in her purse and go.

Flower power

Comfort and style are of equal importance to me when it comes to clothing and accessories, particularly in my kids' wardrobes.  But I have to admit that I am falling for those seemingly frivolous over-sized flower headbands for girls.  They're just so darn cute that even my practical side can't help but ooh and aah.  This adorable headband from PNW shop Poppy Row manages to balance style and comfort by using stretchy cotton fabric and a fabric flower.  The 3" flower comes in 5 different colors and headbands are available in sizes to fit infants to adults.

Chic slings

I love my wrap carrier but when sleep deprivation really kicks in, I just want to toss something on without thinking.  So that is when I reach for a sling.  The slings from Portland's Chic Papoose offer features that others miss.  They are reversible with two coordinating fabrics so you can get two looks with one sling.  There is no ring to dig into your shoulder.  And the slings come in three sizes for a custom fit.  As a tall mama, I appreciate this departure from the one-size-fits-all world of baby gear!

For a limited time, Chic Papoose is offering free shipping.  And when you buy two (or more) slings, you'll save 20%.

Sunshiney savings at Hanna

It feels a little absurd to be talking warm weather wear on this chilly first day of February.  But when Hanna Andersson let us know about one of their not-so-frequent deals, we were off to check out their new spring/summer offerings!

Like the Sun Fun line for girls, new this year. It's two pieces in one: wear it as a cute smocked top or comfy pull-on skirt. 120 x 60So about that deal? Through February 15, save 20% off all regular-priced* items if you shop through this link. The discount will show up in your shopping cart.
