A clever journal that gets right to the point
When a VP at work mentioned in a presentation that he keeps a diary, you could have knocked me over with a feather. He is generally a straight-to-the-point kind of guy so he wouldn't strike me as the journaling type. Of course, I had to ask him about it. He explained that he came across this Five Year Diary at Portland's Canoe and thought he'd give it a try. Once I looked up this clever journal, I began to understand its allure.
The Five Year Diary allows you to summarize each day in just a few lines. The guy at work tries to use just one sentence. Now that may be a form of journaling I could actually stick with! Although on second thought, the pressure of one perfect sentence each day may be too much for me. But wait, I haven't told you the best part of the Five Year Diary. Each day is divided into five sections so you can compare the activities of the day year after year. Imagine setting a goal and then using the Five Year Diary to track the progress. Or using it as a sort of baby book so when you're dropping your kindergartner off for the first day of school you can reminisce about the sleep deprivation on that day the first year or the new word they spoke on that day the second year. And then hand that child their very own Five Year Diary to start for the next five years. I may need to try this diary after all! Plus you can start any day of the year so there's no reason to wait for January 1st. What would your sentence be today?
