Explore the NW: a book-lover's paradise
No trip to Portland is complete without a visit to Powell's, the largest independent seller of new and used books in the world.
The book-ish beauty of Powell's is really best seen in person. It's hard to say what I love most about Powells: the million books under one roof... the 3,500 sections spread over an entire city block... the way used and new books are shelved side-by-side so you always have your choice for any given title...the benches and chairs scattered about so you can sit to read. I can while away hours there at a time.
Thanks to the wonders of the internet, you don't have to be a Portlander to experience Powell's. You can browse their new and used stock online and even sell your own used books to them for virtual credit at their website. Its an easy way to support independent bookstores as you do your online shopping.
