Sunshine on a cloudy day
I have always loved the sound of falling rain, the soothing noise of the steady plip-plop. But the overcast skies that come along with it can make the house feel dreary.
It was on just such a rainy afternoon that I came across Portland artist Leah Pellegrini's lovely glass mobiles. It is wonderful to imagine her bright creations hanging in the window, throwing dancing patches of color on the walls on even the grayest day.
For a bit of interactive fun, she offers a mini-mobile do-it-yourself kit. Everything you need to create your own tiny mobile with only a pair of pliers. Sit down with your kids (this project is better for older children) and let them twist and turn the wires until it's just right--they might even learn something about kinetic art in the process. Then hang your creations in your car or home and let the sunshine in.
